Spotlight On.......Paul Goodwin

Our "spotlight on.. " series is an informal way of getting o know some of the guys and gals behind the scenes at Photo Data and JD Photo-Tools. Each month will highlight a separate member of staff, giving you some insight into their role within the company, and also what makes them tick !

This month, we spotlight Paul Goodwin, the Production Manager at JD Photo-Tools...

Paul was the first full employee of JD Photo-Tools way back in 1989, aged 18. At that time, he started as a darkroom technician learning the ropes on a Littlejohn horizontal camera, and a manual step and repeat machine.

He wasn't with us for long before leaving to work at a local PCB Manufacturer, where he gained further darkroom experience and a good solid background in PCB manufacturing processes.

"I remember it well, as I started at MCI the day after bonfire night so I couldn't see the junction with Oldfield Rd & Regent Rd as the pea souper was so thick."

3 years later, in 1992, just a few days after his 21st Birthday, Paul was 'headhunted' back and rejoined JD Photo-Tools - again as a darkroom engineer. Paul proved to be a very versatile and useful member of the team, and left the darkrooms to run the photo-plotting department, then onto Bare Board Testing, and from there he turned to Front End Engineering for a spell. When the company opened the photomask department in 2002, it was Paul who was instrumental in its installation and this took him back into the darkrooms as the Production Manager.

Nowadays his position is more managerial, and as well as processing front end tooling on a daily basis, Paul directs production from the comfort of his office chair, although still gets his hands dirty from time to time when it's needed! Paul would be your main contact point at JD Photo-Tools for technical queries on photo-tooled films, high resolution films or photomasks.

Outside of work, Paul is a red through and through - United, that is ! He's also a bit of a coffee guru, although it's debatable if he'll ever consume as much coffee as he does Guinness ! He recently married Natalie, spending their honeymoon in the Dominican Republic, and loved the place so much that Paul, Natalie and their daughter Shanelle are going back again this year !

Paul is also an avid gamer, and his Xbox 360 is his current platform of choice !
